These devices may seem small, but they are incredibly powerful—and highly illegal without proper federal licensing.
How Does It Work?
The switch alters the internal function of the Glock’s firing mechanism. In a standard Glock, the trigger must be pulled each time to fire a round. With the Glock switch installed, the sear system is modified so that the slide’s rearward motion doesn’t reset the trigger. This allows the gun to keep firing continuously as long as the trigger is held.
Such rapid-fire capabilities may sound appealing to some, but they significantly increase the risk of overheating, misfires, and accidental discharge, especially in untrained hands.
Is the Glock Switch Legal?
No—unless you are a licensed Class III firearm dealer with federal approval. In the United States, the Glock switch is classified as a machine gun under the National Firearms Act (NFA). That means simply possessing one—even if it’s not installed on a gun—is a federal offense punishable by up to 10 years in prison and significant fines.
According to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), even plastic 3D-printed versions fall under this law.
Safety & Ethical Considerations
Even beyond legality, the Glock switch poses serious safety concerns. The device compromises firearm control and precision, and is not suited for civilian use or standard self-defense scenarios. Glock pistols are engineered for reliability and performance—modifying them with illegal parts undermines that engineering.
Proper firearm use requires responsibility, training, and adherence to the law. Converting a Glock into a machine gun introduces unnecessary danger for the user and the public.
